This red deer stag painting came about because the farm manager at Heneage Estate in the Lincolnshire Wolds approached me to visit the farm and photograph the deer. I chose an image from the day and created this piece in acrylics on deep sided canvas. I placed the deer into a night time woodland setting to add drama. When I revisited the farm to show the manager the resulting painting I learned that the stag's name is Gordon. I came home with a set of his antlers.
Blue Velvet

48" x 24"
This red deer calf lives in the Lincolnshire wolds. I photographed him on a summer day in a field surrounded by the rest of the herd. I initially painted him in a pastoral setting, but there wasn't enough drama in the composition. He now stands on the edge of a wood in a night time setting. Painted in acrylics on a deep sided canvas with expressive brush strokes. The original painting is now sold, but do please get in touch if you would like a limited edition print.
Hainton Lad -SOLD-

A Belted Galloway cow and young calf in dawn's early light, surrounded by heather. Painted in acrylics on a deep sided canvas. No one knows for sure exactly where the much-loved ‘Beltie’ came from, but the most popular story is that it’s a mix of the ancient Galloway and the Dutch Belted cow, known as the Lakenvelder. This likely happened back in the 17th and 18th centuries, when trade between Britain and the Low Countries was booming.
The Galloway itself is a truly old and hardy breed, native to the beautiful rolling hills of south-west Scotland, particularly around the old counties of Kirkcudbright and Wigtown. While they’re best known for their sleek black coats, Galloways have also appeared in a range of colours over the years—including brindle, red, dun, white, and even brocket-faced. Eventually, some developed that distinctive white band around their middle—giving us the iconic ‘belted’ look we know and love today.

With their tall, statuesque stance and calm patience, grey herons are a familiar and striking sight along our canals. Often spotted standing completely still, they’re waiting for just the right moment to snatch up their next meal. When they take to the skies, you’ll notice their long, thin legs trailing behind and their necks tucked back in that signature ‘S’ shape.
These elegant birds are large and long-legged, with soft grey backs and wings, and bright white underparts. Their heads are white too, topped with black, wispy crests, and their long, pointed yellow beaks add a touch of prehistoric charm.
