Meet Lola – A Colourful Dog Portrait Full of Personality

Lola is a very special dog in more ways than one. She belongs to my brother and has been part of our family life for years, alongside her daughter Peanut, who still lives at home too. Between them, they bring endless character, warmth, and just the right amount of mischief.

Lola was the inspiration behind one of my most recognisable dog portraits. When I first painted her, I wanted to capture more than just how she looked. Some pets suit a traditional, realistic style, but others – like Lola – seem to call for something more expressive.

This painting was created in a bright, fun and characterful style, designed to reflect her personality as much as her features. It’s a style that many of my clients are drawn to when commissioning a bespoke pet portrait, especially if they want something joyful, colourful and full of life.

From Painting to Collection

Since then, Lola has taken on a life of her own. She now features across a range of products including greeting cards, cushions, tea towels and fine china, and has become a firm favourite with customers.

There’s something about her expression that people connect with – perhaps that sense of curiosity and warmth that dogs do so well.

Inspired by Countryside Living

Living and working in the countryside near Lincoln is a huge part of what inspires my work. The slower pace of life, the changing seasons, and the animals around us all find their way into my designs.

That same sense of calm is something we share with guests at Bridleway Bed & Breakfast. Many visitors come here to switch off, enjoy the surroundings, and experience a quieter way of living – something that feels closely connected to the artwork I create.

A Personal Story That Became Something More

It’s always lovely when a painting created for family becomes something that resonates with others. Lola continues to be one of those pieces – full of character, warmth and just a little bit of mischief.

And of course, behind it all, she is still very much herself – enjoying life with Peanut and keeping a close eye on everything… especially anything involving food or cups on tables.
